WNC's Climate Targets Validated by SBTi, Company Commits to Net Zero by 2050

Hsinchu, March 13, 2025 — The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has validated WNC’s near-term and net-zero science-based targets, confirming that the company’s carbon reduction targets and pathways align with the SBTi's net-zero standards. WNC is committed to implementing emission reduction measures and to accelerating its low-carbon transformation.

The SBTi provides companies with a clearly-defined framework to help them establish science-based carbon reduction pathways as well as short- and long-term targets for achieving net zero, with the ultimate goal of limiting the global temperature increase to 1.5 °C above pre-industrial levels as stated in the Paris Agreement. WNC has committed to achieving a 42% absolute reduction in Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions (base year: 2022) and a 25% absolute reduction in Scope 3 emissions (base year: 2023) by 2030, as well as to achieving net zero by 2050.

To accelerate the process of achieving its Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions reduction targets, in 2023 WNC completed verification of Scope 1/2/3 emissions inventory at all of its sites in accordance with ISO 14064-1 standards. The company has also implemented an energy management platform in accordance with ISO 50001 standards to improve energy usage efficiency and installed solar panels at its sites in Taiwan, China, and Vietnam to reduce the environmental impact of its operations. In addition, WNC has joined the RE100 initiative, committing to 100% renewable energy use by 2040. For Scope 3 emissions reduction, WNC’s focus is on establishing a sustainable supply chain and working with suppliers to improve carbon management. The company has established global supply chain management policies and a supplier code of conduct, and it requires its suppliers to set carbon reduction targets and action plans as well as submit regular reports on their progress.

WNC has formulated multi-stage, low-carbon transformation strategies on multiple fronts, including operations, products, and supply chains. It has established a carbon emissions database for components and incorporated carbon reduction designs and concepts in each stage of the product lifecycle, from material selection, product design, and manufacturing to packaging and waste disposal. The aforementioned measures, coupled with implementation of low-carbon materials selection and carbon management, enables WNC to develop green products with optimal energy efficiency. This year WNC again received a Gold Medal from EcoVadis, a globally recognized sustainability rating platform. This puts WNC in the top 5% of enterprises assessed by EcoVadis, demonstrating its outstanding performance in creating mutual benefit for all stakeholders across the value chain and its competitiveness in sustainable operations.

WNC will continue to participate in international environmental initiatives, and it plans to publish its first TNFD report this year. The company will also continue to further its efforts in biodiversity conservation, reforestation, and sustainable supply chain management to create positive connections and interactions between the environment and humankind and work toward becoming a net-zero enterprise.
